The Fifth Grade Promotion Ceremony and Reception will be held on Wednesday, June 5th (the last day of school) at 9AM in the MUR. Planning is underway for this fantastic send-off for our 5th graders; if you can help with decorations, refreshments, or other aspects of this event, please contact Alison Chandler.
We are requesting a $10 donation from each student to help cover event expenses. Donations can be made in cash or by checks payable to SPA (please put “5th Grade Promo” in memo). Each class’s room parents will collect them. Please send in your $10 donations by Friday, March 22, 2019. Thank you!
We are planning to have a slide show at the promotion ceremony, and we need YOUR pictures! Please use the Dropbox link below to upload your pictures. No login necessary. We request that you share several photos from grades K through 5th. Group photos are encouraged, and please also share one family photo per student. We’ll do our best to include as many of your images as possible.
Please complete your photo submissions by Friday, March 29th. If you have any trouble using Dropbox, please use this link (help.dropbox.com) for help or email email@example.com with any questions.

We just finished our amazing 14th annual gala, “A Night at the Derby,” and you’re probably thinking “Wow, planning the next one already?” The answer is “YES, we are!” Planning Sequoia’s largest fundraiser of the school year takes time and a lot of helping hands, and we can’t wait for the next one! Please consider joining us. If you’d like to help, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, email address, and phone number. Trust me, you will have a blast helping make our next Gala amazing!!!
This year’s “One School, One Book” program is underway! We are reading “The Chocolate Touch” this year. If your child has not received the book and materials, please contact your child’s teacher. We hope you enjoy reading the book together and discussing it; remember to turn in your weekly certificates for a chance to win the weekly prizes!
As we start week 2 of our program, we are hoping that you are enjoying your time reading. We’ve heard the book is bringing up great topics; please let us know if you would like to share any talking points or discussions that you have had with your family. Visit our web page for more info about the program, discussion questions & a review quiz, and weekly completion coupons:

The California Healthy Kids Survey provides data around the whole child and the school experience and is used by the District to drive priorities. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. The link can be found at the MDUSD website and on our school website. The window to complete the survey closes on March 31st. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts with us!

If you were unable to attend this year’s gala, you can still be a part of this year’s Fund-a-Need Campaign! Each year, Sequoia educators and parents brainstorm to determine the goal of our Fund-a-Need project. This year, your Fund-a-Need support will enable us to pursue a number of initiatives promoting Emergency Preparedness, Communication, and Connectivity at Sequoia.
Specifically, we want to purchase emergency supply kits for each of our classrooms, as well as some school-wide supplies to be used in the event of a natural disaster. We also hope to be able to purchase walkie-talkies for each of our teachers, in order to facilitate communications both during normal day-to-day operations and in case of emergency.
Another specific goal of this year’s Fund-a-Need campaign is to purchase a digital marquee for the school, to replace the manual one we currently have and facilitate timely and accurate communication within our community. If funds allow, we would also like to improve the WiFi connectivity and infrastructure on campus to support increasing needs.
You can make all of this possible by generously supporting this year’s Fund-a-Need campaign and ushering our school community into the 21st-century of communication and preparedness!
Please visit https://spa.schoolauction.net/2019gala/catalog and help us reach our goal!
We would like to give a big “Thank You!” to everyone who attended our Gala Saturday night! Thanks to all of the donors and bidders, everyone who helped bring in donations, and the entire Gala Committee. We couldn’t have done it without you!! Extra special thanks to our amazing Gala Chair, Toni Shay!

Item Pick-Up: This Thursday 3/7 and Friday 3/8, from 2:45-3:45pm, we will be in Room 9 at school distributing all the amazing items you won in the online auction and at the gala. Please plan to pick up your items at that time! Be sure to look for an email in the next couple days with instructions on how to pay your invoice if you haven’t already; once completed, your items will be ready to pick up.
Student Portraits: If you didn’t have a chance to purchase your students’ portraits at the gala, we will have those available for purchase on Thursday and Friday, as well. The cost is $25 per portrait.
Thank you again for making this year’s Gala one for the record books!!!
