Donation Drive for Wildfire Victims

California’s deadliest wildfire on record broke out in the small community of Paradise, CA, on November 8th. The entire town of 27,000 was evacuated and displaced. Neighboring towns of Magalia, Concow, Chico, and Pulga were also affected. Over 8,000 homes have been destroyed as well as almost 300 businesses. There are currently 85 fatalities, and hundreds more are still missing. Though the fire is now mostly contained, the community is still in crisis and needs our help. We are asking for donations from our Sequoia Community.

Please consider helping out by providing the following:

  • Visa gift cards
  • Gift cards from Walmart, Target, and Safeway
  • Backpacks
  • Canned pet food
  • Diapers
  • Toiletries

Please collect any items that you’re able to donate and bring them to the school office this week, 11/26-11/30. All items will be distributed this coming weekend to various organizations in the Chico area.

Thank you so much for your help!!!

Gala UPDATE

A few tickets for our annual Gala are still available.  Be sure to get yours before they are sold out!  Gala tickets could make a great holiday gift!  Tickets can be purchased here or by dropping a check in the Gala Event Envelope in the school office.

We also need YOUR help gathering donations to make our auction a success!  As you’re doing your holiday shopping, please ask businesses for donations of goods, services, or gift certificates, or see if they are interested in becoming a sponsor!

dreams-metroeve_competition-dreams-meaning

Last year’s online auction, silent auction, and live auction raised over $50K for the Sequoia Parents Association, which funded school programs like PE, the STEAM Lab, IT/systems upgrades, Field Trips, Outdoor Education, and our Intervention Teacher.  None of this would be possible without the help, donations, volunteering, and hard work of all the SPA parents (which includes YOU). To help bring in the much-needed donations, we are once again holding our Class Donation Competition!

This year we will have two chances to win:

1. Total number of donations per class

2. Total value of items donated

Donation Wish List (although nothing is too big or to small!)

  • Corporate Sponsorship/Advertising for the Gala, or donation match from your employer

STEM Fair Early Preparation

It’s not too early to start thinking about the STEM fair! Mark your calendars for February 7, 2019. That’s a Thursday evening full of Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math in the MUR with family and friends! All students from all grades, including kinders, are invited to participate.

The fair gives students an opportunity to explore technical ideas in a creative way. There are endless project possibilities, from models and collections to experiments and scientific principle demonstrations.

Visit our STEM page at the SPA website for more information. If you can help us put on a great fair this year, have a look at our SignUpGenius form. We’ll need a lot of help, especially help with judging.

Allow 4 weeks to plan and prepare. Once you’re settled on an idea, register for the fair using our SPA registration form.

Believe Kids Success!

Thank you to all the students and parents who picked up their orders on Thurdsay.  This was by far our most successful pick up we’ve had, Thank you!  I also want to thank the day care staff and all the volunteers who gave up their afternoon to help sort all the orders and deliver.  Thank you!

You should have noticed a copy of your order form in your bag or box of items.  At the bottom of the order form is the customer service number (888-816-1116) to call with any questions or problems about your order.  If there are any other questions about the fundraiser please feel free to email me.

Thank you again! With your help we raised almost $14,000 for Sequoia!!

Outdoor Ed Update

We are off to a great start, with around 25% of the needed funds already raised, mostly from parent donations, but also thanks to School Fundraisers such as Candy Leis, Emergency Kits, and Water Sales. To raise all of the money by March, we need to collectively raise about $6,000/month (including parent donations).

“What Can I Do to Help?”
1. Give the Gift of Outdoor Ed this Holiday Season!
Anytime is a good time to stop in the office and make a full or partial donation, but why not make this holiday truly memorable with the gift of a trip your child will never forget? Do you have relatives or friends asking what they might get your child for a present? How about suggesting a contribution toward their Outdoor Ed experience?

2. Grab a friend and help with the upcoming Fundraisers (promote via social media, volunteer as a cashier, be a point of contact, etc.):
Nov – Vendor Boutique Bake Sale on 11/29
Dec – Candy Grams
Jan – Wooden Roses
Feb – See’s Candy

Every child that wants to go to Outdoor Ed can go, provided the entire 5th grade can raise enough money. The trip costs approximately $400 per student. The majority of money raised comes from voluntary parent contributions, either paid in full or in installments.

Contributions can be made in the school office from 7:45am-3:30pm on school days, or send a check to school with your child (checks payable to “Sequoia Elementary); please put checks in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, teacher, and “Outdoor Ed.”

Thank you so much! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Teresa Healy (phone 858-602-2610) anytime. Mrs. Ricard is also ready to answer any detailed questions about medical and dietary concerns. Outdoor Ed is an amazing educational and developmental opportunity for our students, and it is truly designed for All Kids!
